Fucking (German pronunciation: [ˈfʊkɪŋ]) is an Austrian village in the municipality of Tarsdorf, in the Innviertel region of western Upper Austria.
The village is located 33 kilometres (21 mi) north of Salzburg, four kilometres (2.5 mi) east of the German border.
The settlement of Fucking has existed since at least 1070 and is named after a man from the 6th century called Focko. “-ing” is an old Germanic suffix indicating the people of the root word to which it is attached; thus Fucking means “(place of) Focko’s people.” The village has a population of 107.
Fucking’s most famous feature is a traffic sign with its name on it, beside which tourists often stop to have their photograph taken. It is a commonly stolen street sign. Significant public funds have been spent on replacing the stolen signs.
My sister was reading the newspaper today and she found about this village, she couldn’t resist telling me about it and I couldn’t resist posting it on facebook and here in this blog. for some reason it made me laught.
They say that tourists don’t actually go inside that village, but rather stand outside of it to take pictures next to it’s sign. If I would ever get the chance to get there, I would definetly go in side it, make a tour and when someone calls and ask where am I, I would dimply say “I’m in a fucking village” which sounds really funny if you think about it.
I never thought that Austria is F***ing interesting.
